About Kerala Lottery
Kerala state lottery program run by the kerala Government and established in 1967 and it was the first time when lottery department was setup in India.
The department came into existence on September 1,1967 and also released the first lottery ticket in the same year on November 1.
The reason for the existence of Kerala lottery department was banned of private lottery program in 1967.
The value of the first ticket was Rs.1 at that time and the first prize money value was Rs.50,000 and it took approximately 60 days to open first draw and finally its open on January 26.
The idea to begin that type of program came into the mind of Finance Minister of Kerala, the late Shri. P. K. Kunju Sahib.
And the first director of kerala lottery was the late Shri. P. K. Seydu Mohammed.
The headquarters of Kerala lottery is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.And it is initially operated under Finance department but later operated under Tax department of Kerala Government.
The lottery program act as a major source of non tax revenue for Kerala state government and it also provides a source of income for the poor.
The Kerala lottery department soon became successful and also became a role model for other States. Then soon other states of India also follow the concept of lottery.
Presently, there are approximately 465 employees in department under its Directorate located at Vikas Bhavan at Thiruvananthapuram.
